A pregnancy experience > boring ol' birth class

I've been thinking a lot about the EXPERIENCE I want to offer when students attend my classes.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When I was pregnant with my first, I attended a hospital birth class and it felt like just another thing I had to do to be a "good patient." I wasn't excited about going each week. I actually dropped out halfway through because it was BORING, it was FREE (no INVESTMENT on the line) & they were literally teaching what WOULD happen to me vs. what choices I had. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With my 2nd, I took a class from an independent instructor...I looked forward to the class, conversation and content. It became a part of my pregnancy experience. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That's what I want for my students. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a family life educator, my role continues beyond your birth, if you invite me to do so. I want birth classes to be the "first date" in our professional relationship. I want you and your partner to look forward to coming to class. I want you to curl up on my velvet couch with the softest blankets I can find, eat some beautiful nutritious food, get your body moving in a way that feels good with the help of local fitness experts whom I have committed to fostering professional relationships with and receive all the important information you need to have an amazing pregnancy, postpartum and parenting journey in a fun, relevant, accessible way.

I want you to leave feeling excited, refreshed, relaxed and ready. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And I want you to come back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to hear your birth story. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to hold your little one while you eat hands-free for maybe the first time ever. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to create space for your postpartum healing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want play with your toddlers while you enjoy a solo Target run with coffee in hand. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And then I want to do it all over again when you get pregnant again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to take big siblings by the hand and practice baby care on my classroom doll collection while we talk about big feelings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It all starts in class. It starts with hands-on activities. A rainbow array of good food. Laughter. Cozy comfort. Conversation. Relaxation.
